The cottage was full of character, charm and history, making our stay feel truly special.
We were made to feel welcome by the lovely family, who were incredibly friendly, warm and helpful during our stay. Their hospitality really made a difference and added to the whole experience.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return.
Highly recommended!
P.S. Hot Tub was an added bonus - enjoyed both by adults and children.”

“We all enjoyed our week of Parnacott : Amazing historic buildings : Two friends of mine, on seeing various period buildings asked “is the house open to the public in the winter??”
A big thank you to John and Rondi - great hosts & always able to offer advice as & when.
Great location, so much peace & quiet, we had good weather -no so much intense heat as in recent weeks.
John did ask “for an suggestions” so here goes… maybe a covered outside area - maybe in the rectangular area along-side the hot tub?? It’s difficult to add to what people have already written so, thanks again, and in the words of a well known TV program -would you stay here again YES.”

“It’s been a pleasure to stay in your beautiful home so much space for us all to wonder around together or on our own, remembering my husband, their father, father in law, grandfather, great grandfather.
Each of us with our different stories to tell of the person we knew so very well, he always had time for each of us, whether it be a problem to be solved, just to listen or to play a game or two with the grandchildren.
We celebrated our 60th wedding Anniversary two years ago now, so many memories, count my blessings, could’’t have chosen a better place to live & this time.
Thank you so much”

Thank you Rondi, John, Richard and family members. Your enthusiasm for your delightful house was infectious, all of us appreciated it’s history in particular the story of it’s evolution into the house we see today.
My 14 year old grand daughter ***, was pleased to find so many books, in particular, the work of Shakespeare, a favorite.
You made us feel part of your family with your calm and thoughtful way when ever we met in the gardens. Which are a delight to just wonder.
(********Johy*******) the Labrador certainly appreciated the space.
I personally appreciated the quiet solitude either in or out of the house, “room to breathe”.
It is a wonderful place to stay and I will be telling all my friends and family. Thank you again.”

The perfect large family retreat - an unforgettable stay at Parnacott House.
Our group of 7 families from Liverpool, 19 people in total, has just returned from an absolutely fantastic stay at Parnacott House, and we cannot recommend it highly enough.
From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the scale, beauty, and thoughtful layout of the property.
Finding a house that comfortably accommodates a large group while still giving everyone their own space is a challenge, but Parnacott House exceeded all our expectations. The house is perfectly set up for large family gatherings, with spacious communal areas where we could all come together, as well as plenty of room for quieter moments when needed.
June 2026
Throughout our stay, we made full use of everything the property had to offer.
We enjoyed wonderful family meals around the table, spent evenings, playing games and sharing stories, and made the most of the outer spaces with BBQ’s and time relaxing together.
The Children had endless fun exploring the grounds, playing games and enjoying the freedom and safety of the surroundings, while the adults could unwind and appreciate the peaceful setting.
The house provided the perfect base for family walks and exploring the beautiful local area, as well as beach trips that created lasting memories for both children and adults.
Whether we were gathered together celebrating laughing over meals enjoying games or simply relaxing in each others company.
Parnacott Love You.
See you soon, Thanks for great memories.

“Once again, we have had such a special family Christmas at Parnacott - or 'the Christmas House' as all the children call it!
It has been chaotic, but lots of fun - walks in the rain on the beach at Bude, games by the fire, delicious meals in the splendid dining room, and of course the grand present opening in the beautiful drawing room under the spectacular tree!
We are so grateful to John and Rondi for sharing this unique home, and for all they do to make our stay so memorable.
We remember our beloved Gradie (Grandma Sadie) who was with us last time, but didn't quite make it to her 100th birthday earlier this month.
And we rejoice in the arrival of 2 new members of the family since our last visit. (Lola and Lucas)
Happy times to all who enjoy this amazing place.”

“Family Break in big house that's a home from home.
Close to home, yet a very different Landscape
The coast and countryside near Parnacott are perfect for dog-walking with fabulous coastal views, north to Lundy Island. Above, the magnificent front door and porch at Parnacott House”
“Self-Catering holiday accommodation should either be more comfortable than home or in such a lovely spot that you can put up with a few discomforts. Parnacott scores on both Fronts.”
“The North coast of our peninsula turns sharply south in two big steps, roughly at Ilfracombe, where the Bristol Channel joins into the Atlantic and again at Hartland Point, where Devon slides down into Cornwall crossing the boarder, just north of Bude.
The second of these corners is actually more acute than a right angle and the triangular area south and east, with the market town of Holsworthy at it's base, could easily be described as the Horn of Devon! You heard it here first.
It's a fascinating slice of the West-country. Passionate Cornish-men and deeply devoted Devonian’s might not agree , but the difference between our region's neighboring counties is less sharply defined here and the infant Tamar, that marks the boundary, far less of a dividing line than it becomes further south.”
“For those of us from the "soft" south of Devon, making up the trip to the wide open spaces and dramatic clay-covered county in the north can be as big an adventure as crossing the channel to Britany from Plymouth or flying out of Exeter airport for a Mediterranean resort.
At least that is what I told my wife and daughters and the girls' four grandparents, who joined us for a weekend away at Parnacott House, just west of Holsworthy, in what can often be a "dead" period of the year in mid-January.”
“Parnacott dates back to at least the reign of Elizabeth 1 and owners John and Rondi Vowler believe its situation on the upper reaches of a low hill, the fact that it is well-served by springs that break through the clay cap and is well-wooded all suggest it may well have been occupied long before that, perhaps as early as Roman times.
It expanded over the years from a small farm to a more substantial Devon longhouse and - thanks to shrewder marriages - eventually grew a grand Georgian frontage in 1820.
With a couple of breaks, during the First World War when it was a temporarily a nursing home and in the Second World War when it was taken over as a gun battery. temporarily Vowlers have been in residence for some 400 years, many of them called John. The current John, who lives in the cottage with his wife Rondi and lets the main house to holidaymakers, is unlikely to be the last. His Daughter and son-in-law and son John Richard, are waiting in the wings.”
“The key to self-catering holiday accommodation, in my views, is that it should either be better equipped and at least as comfortable, if not more comfortable than home, or it should be in such a lovely spot you can put up with a few discomforts.
Parnacott luckily scores on both fronts. Great location, set in its own 12-acres with coast and country on the doorstep, and fabulously equipped to enable the cooks in the party to rustle up delicious meals, plus two huge TV's, WiFi - restricted only by the poor broadband service that affects much of the West-country
- and superb comfort.
It is nice to have access to the to the internet, TV and the rest of the 21st century on tap. But Parnacott also offers more than just a taste of an earlier age. The magnificent dining room, with seating for 14 around a candle-lit table and family portraits glowering down, encourages good table manners and fine food and wine.”
“The drawing room, across the hall at the front of the house, has an open fire and sofas placed around it in a U-shape but, mercifully, no TV. As a result, after Saturday night's dinner we repaired to the drawing room to do what families probably used to do - talk.
The debate may not have been very high-brow, despite the best efforts of some. But it ranged around the politics of the day, international relations and the state of the economy until we pretty much put the world to rights, a few more glasses of wine had been consumed and it was bed-time.”
